Expert Layering: Belted Trench Coat at Michael Kors FW2015
One thing the cold weather elicited in New York fashion week guests was a flair for layering. A guest at the Michael Kors show layered a turtleneck and plaid dress under a trench coat, but kept it from getting too conservative by cinching her coat with a leather belt and adding a nose ring and multiple earrings. Who would have thought that Fendi bags would still be so popular more than a decade after the Fendi baguette craze? And yet that seems to be the case, with many a fashionista toting them around this past fashion week season. They’re also a little more practical than investing in just the “monster” charm. How to Style It: Olivia Palermo at Nina Ricci SS2015
I love the color burgundy at this time of year. I also love warm turtleneck sweaters, but hate looking schlumpy. Of course, Olivia Palermo managed to style all these things to look quite chic. At the Nina Ricci show in Paris, she ignored the “rule” about not tucking your sweater into your skirt or pants and tucked her burgundy turtleneck sweater partway into a pencil skirt of the same color to emphasize the waistline. Then she topped it with a big statement necklace and added nude heels for a ladylike look. Brava.

Welcome to Paris Fashion Week! The weather has cooled off a little here, which means the fashion flock is breaking out jackets, boots and pants. Brazil’s Christina Pitanguy wore black layers to yesterday’s Cedric Charlier show, mixing a black Prada jacket with Stella McCartney pants, shoes and bag by Saint Laurent and a crystal shark tooth necklace by a Brazilian designer.

I don’t know how fashion writer J.J. Martin finds all these fabulous vintage clothes, but she certainly has an eye for them. Loved this stripey pink and black one at the Fendi show, which had side slits before so many designer started doing them this season.
Katlin Aas at Michael Kors SS2015
Model Katlin Aas wore a polished and chic version of the rocker chick look after walking the Michael Kors show. Long layers on top are key for fall, as are low heeled boots like these.
