The gorgeous Miranda Kerr arrived at yesterday’s Stella McCartney garden party resort show in New York in a simple white shift dress and fabulous bag with pink handles.
The weather this week reminds me of the weather during last summer’s couture week in Paris, when it was relentlessly rainy and gloomy – in the middle of July! This didn’t trouble the fashion set too much, however – one solution, as Carine demonstrated, was to wear your usual summer dress but pair it with great boots or a jacket.
I still remember this bitterly cold morning last February. Model Irene Kim handled it with style, wearing a black leather jacket like a cardigan under an oversized fur coat. The white dress underneath is a nice sign of spring.
I love this combination of a formal gown made of exquisite white lace with a casual beret and plaid jacket. The jewelry and Chanel bag take it up a notch further, styling-wise. Very French, very Chanel.
Garage Magazine’s Michelle Elie often wears Comme des Garçons, but this sculptural white dress by the label was one of my favorite pieces. She paired it with gold disc Givenchy earrrings for more high-drama gorgeousness. Detail shot after the jump.
Such a great summer-to-fall transitional outfit on a guest at the Chanel show. She tops a summery white minidress with a boucle Chanel jacket, black Chanel hat and adds black Chanel boots with a chain motif. The bag is Hermès. This is the luxury version of transitional, but you could also try the same mix with any non-Chanel items you have on hand.
Here’s another famous beauty for you: Karen Elson, who arrived at the Alexander Wang show in a white dress by the designer. She has the most gorgeous alabaster skin and is even prettier in person.
Vogue Turkey’s editor at large Ece Sukan mixed a white summer dress with a black turtleneck and snakeskin boots in one very cool outfit outside the Viktor & Rolf show.
Another beautiful white dress, this time cinched with a black belt, looks fabulous on Chen Ran outside the Chloe show in Paris. Love the sunglasses too.
A crisp white dress like this one by Prada never melts in the heat. The pop of color from the bag is the perfect finishing touch.
Here’s another Gatsby-esque look for you: the house photographer of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in a white dress and brown oxfords. Also love the boater hat as a substitute for the ubiquitous straw fedora. Expect 1920s chic to reign this summer as we near the release of The Great Gatsby.
An ivory silk dress and fedora channels the Great Gatsby at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. And about that fedora: D. and I have an ongoing argument about whether they are out of style. But the answer seems to be that they will never go out of style. They have been adopted into the canon of American fashion as surely as the polo shirt.
