Shorts Story: A Dozen Perfect Pairs
If there’s one must-rock article of clothing for summer 2010, it’s got to be shorts. From super casual to extra fancy, they’re popping up everywhere dresses and skirts used to rule, including polo games and even the red carpet. Flowy or cuffed cuts are incredibly flattering even on non-leg-models, and a staple pair of jean shorts (or two) will take you from beach to BBQ. Bonus: there are still many inexpensive pairs to be had, and a lot of designer pieces are now on sale.

12 great pairs from Topshop, McQ, Vena Cava and more. (more…)
Stine Goya Now Online
One of the main drawbacks of shopping online hasn’t been price, convenience or even fit (especially if, like many experienced shoppers, you know your size across brands), but selection. Between high-end designer lines and mall shops, there was a big gray area that we had to fill offline with individualistic, quirky clothes. Fortunately, more and more of those hard-to-find brands are coming online, first at pioneering sites like La Garconne, Revolve and Pixie Market, and now in their own right – like the Danish clothing line Stine Goya, which just opened its own online shop.
First spotted in NYC at No. 6, Stine Goya specializes in floaty, intriguingly draped dresses, skirts and trousers in unexpected color combinations. The SS10 season ranges from acid-washed pastels to all black rompers to ombre gypsy pants, many for under $300. And now you don’t have to book a flight to Copenhagen to get it.

Good news for procrastinators: if you’ve waited this long to pick up some new summer bikinis (about as long as it takes to get your target summer bod?), they’re now on sale. Cut 25 by Yigal Azrouel
The utilitarian look doesn’t seem to be going anywhere for fall, so Yigal Azrouel’s new capsule collection should launch just in time to provide you with a reliable September uniform. WWD reports that the designer’s new sportswear line will launch at Bergdorfs, Saks, and Intermix in July and will be much more gently priced than his signature line – but with much of the same excellence in craftsmanship.
Schooled in the virtues of uniforms since first grade, I am definitely gravitating towards this sleeveless army coat/dress on the left, which could provide durable protection from the slings and arrows of next September’s fashion week.
World Cup Havaianas
These new Havaiana soccer-themed flip flops are so fab, even a non-soccer fan could get into the World Cup spirit. Choose from 24 teams, or heck, choose more than one team, because who can be loyal to just one pair? With these chic but comfy flops, you’ll be glad to stand for hours in a sports bar. They run only in men’s sizes (boo), but there are still plenty of small sizes left that should work for women. Score one for Brazil.
Havaiana Limited Edition Team Flip Flops, $24 at Barneys.
Must-Have Summer Shoes 2010
As much as we love ogling fabulous Balenciaga stilettos, flats are what we actually wear for a day of strolling around the city. In the summer months, they can be sneaks, espadrilles, sandals or ballet flats: the main criterion is comfort.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on style, as we saw on a recent day in Union Square. Here are some of the biggest trends in flat summer shoes for 2010, as seen on the street and in the stores. (more…)
Inside Nordstrom Rack
I have a well-dressed, chichi New York friend who recently confessed that she loves bargains so much, she often shops at T.J. Maxx. Though she has gotten teased for this, especially when she totes those T.J. Maxx shopping bags to Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side, she is a good representative of the bargain mania that has been sweeping the country. A Stylist blogger just admitted to being addicted to members-only discount sites like Gilt Group, and Bluefly has been going strong for years now.

So why not check out the goods before you lay down the cash? That’s essentially what Nordstrom Rack is – a Bluefly with shopping aisles. While the hardcore bargain hunters elbowing their way through this basement space may not exactly be Bergdorf blondes, and there may not be as many upscale designers, Nordstrom carries current season merch from labels like Michael Michael Kors, Trina Turk, Seven Jeans, Bruno Magli and more, with prices slashed to a half or quarter the original cost. Here’s a collection of stealth photos, name brands and pricing from inside the new 14th Street store. (more…)
Timex for J.Crew Military Watch
If you’re obsessed with this vintage black military watch in T Magazine but don’t have the cash to drop on a rehabbed Rolex, you can get a similar style for less. J.Crew has teamed up with Timex to reissue this vintage 1940s military watch with a faded black face and black nylon strap. Not only is it tough enough to go with this season’s military garb, it’s as durable as it looks. Water resistant to 50 meters, this unisex watch goes easily from the wilds of Manhattan to the beach.

Sheer Black Patterned Tights
Like it or not, Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us, so it’s time to start getting in the mood. As seen on the cover of WWD, sheer black tights in floral, lace, and polka dot patterns are sexing up legwear for evening. They’re more fashionable – and more practical – than bare legs, so you can look hot even when it’s 10 degrees outside.

Of course, the French have been on the forefront of this sexy trend, so channel your inner belle du jour with Givenchy’s Autumn Floral Lace Tights ($18). (more…)
BookBook Laptop Cases
Remember books? You know, those things you had to lug home from the library and read page by page. You may not have very many leather-bound hardcover books lying around anymore, but now you can have the nerdy caché of carrying around a vintage tome – all whilst protecting a Mac laptop.

The BookBook Laptop Case ($79.99) by Twelvesouth comes in 13- and 15-inch sizes for MacBook or MacBook Pro. It will look way cooler in Stumptown coffee as you look for that actor who was in that movie with Kevin Bacon on your IMDb app and post it on Facebook and search iTunes for the exact Sean what’s-his-name song that you heard at that place where you went that time. Now where was I? Never mind.
