Flashback to last winter’s deep freeze: if in doubt, pile on the layers, as Taylor Tomasi Hill did outside Milk Studios during last February’s New York Fashion Week.
One notable trend to emerge last winter and this one is exposed ankles, no matter what the temperature. This photo was taken when the polar vortex bore down on New York fashion week last winter. Part of it is due to the conundrum of what to wear with cropped, wide cut jeans and pants, the new silhouette that is edging out skinny jeans. And part of it may just be plain old fashion masochism.
The weather’s getting colder, and it’s time to get cozy. Caroline Issa looked comfy but chic in a cashmere turtleneck sweater and pale gray coat and trousers at the Peter Pilotto show in London.
An updated cut for skinny jeans/pants is one with flare, cropped at the ankle to show off those shoes, as seen on Taylor Tomasi Hill at the Carven show in Paris.
Another great vintage look on Clara Racz, this time with layered men’s ties and a U.S.A. bomber jacket.
A particularly cute outfit on Laura Neilson at the J. Mendel couture show in Paris. I like the coordinating sailor stripes, and the flats are key for getting around town on a day of multiple shows. Also, she was one of a couple trendsetters spotted during Paris couture week who tucked a sweater into high-waisted trousers.
Rainbows have been a recurring motif in fashion for the past few seasons. If you have anything rainbow, now is the time to bust it out.
Casual chic: Ece Sukan pulls it all together with a crisp cotton top in French blue and a straw bag she scored at a market in Colombia.
A good example of how an all-white outfit can look badass, as seen on Gilda Ambrosio at the Iceberg show in Milan. The masculine cut of the jacket and pants give it an edge.
I love a bandeau top for a pool party, especially in a town with retro appeal like Palm Springs. A guest mixed hers with flowy tropical print pants at the Pop Sugar party at the Avalon hotel.
Spring is the time to experiment with different textures and colors now that we can finally shed some layers. Model Irina Liss exited the Margiela show in a black and white leather jacket with sheen. A long skinny silk scarf is the perfect spring accessory.
At the Maison Martin Margiela show, Gilda Ambrosio wore two trends we’ve been seeing a lot of: velvet and choker necklaces. And the two things go together so well, in a Stevie Nicks kind of way.
Have you any Grey Poupon? Mustard yellow is shaping up to be a big color right now and for fall 2016. Margaret Zhang exited the Fendi show in an oversize mustard coat and Fendi bag and pants.
A flash of red at the Tommy Hilfiger show provides a graphic punch on the streets as winter winds down.
