Fall 2010 Trend: Camouflage
With cargo everything popping up everywhere, it was only a matter of time until camouflage made a comeback. Seen on fashion-forward guests at Balmain, this military pattern is easy to incorporate into your look. Ricky’s is selling a camouflage scarf for just $14.99. Wear it with a black leather jacket or use it to add some edge to a traditional field jacket. Either way, you’ll be on the front lines of style.

Lost Property of London Bags
Surfing from one photo site to another, I stumbled upon these bags, shot by photographer Victoria Hannan for Lost Property of London. Using burlap salvaged from South American coffee factories for the exterior and Liberty fabrics as the lining, Lost Property of London crafts these amazing recycled handbags that all the Brit girls are loving now.
Though they’re not sold in the States yet, Lost Property of London bags run from £55 to £130, and Liberty of London will ship them internationally for £25. This seems like a bargain to have a fabulous, eco-friendly bag that’s not already on the arm of every New Yorker.

Rain Rain Go Away Umbrella
It looks like Hurricane Earl may be a bust for NYC this weekend, but that’s no reason not to plan for rainy days ahead. This adorable umbrella by Felix Rey urges “rain rain” to “go away” and keeps you dry in style.
The design is part Japanese street fashion, part Sonia Rykiel-inspired cheekiness, and all yours for just $65.

Stefanie Wolf Jewelry
One of the best things we discovered on Martha’s Vineyard was jewelry designer Stephanie Wolf. Using glass tiles sourced from the Czech Republic, this island-based artist creates unusual, eye-catching pieces. Contrasting color at the edge of each tile adds an antiquey feel to her “Trilogy” necklaces and bracelets, priced from $35-$85 and available in 10 colors.
The summery necklaces look great with beach-chic clothes by Roberta Freymann, Trina Turk and the like. Come fall, Stefanie Wolf’s vermilion tile necklace would add a great pop of color to your standard roster of all-black outfits.

Alexander Wang Horsehair Boots
As anyone with S.A.D. could tell you, the days are already getting perceptibly shorter. The only thing that can get us excited about the approaching end of summer is the arrival of new fall clothes and accessories in stores – like these kick-ass Alexander Wang horsehair boots. Daring but not totally over-the-top, they tap into fall’s fur trend with kinder, gentler horsehair and a towering platform heel that’s sure to be a fave among fashion editors. They sure aren’t cheap, but they scrape just under the $1K mark at $995. Get ‘em while they last….

Annabelle African-Print Dresses
Usually I’m skeptical about buying clothes from street markets because you never know if the cut is going to be off. But it wasn’t just the vibrant African prints that set the rows of fetching Annabelle dresses apart at the Brooklyn Flea last weekend; it was the beautiful tailoring. Strapless dresses in particular have to be perfectly constructed to stay up, and this one, on sale for $80, way exceeds expectations for a flea market find, even if it is this designer-centric market.
Winner of Bravo’s “The Fashion Show” last summer, designer Anna McCraney is selling many of the Annabelle designs you saw last year now at the Flea. Sourced from African stores in the neighborhood, the traditional fabrics have been worked into sexy, modern cuts. McCraney’s designs seem even more timely this year with the smash hit Fela on Broadway. One look at this show, Tony winner for best costumes, and you will see both the strong influence African culture has had on fashion (Marc by Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga come to mind) and wonder why we don’t see more of it.
And at this point in the season, the collection is on sale! Think of Annabelle as the perfect party dress for a crazy-hot night.

Safety First Dopp Case
I have a (very aesthetically inclined) friend who’s obsessed with airline safety diagrams and has collected them – ok, stolen them from planes – around the world. Cartoonish yet macabre, they sum up so much of what’s wrong with travel today.
But when in airport hell, this cheeky carry-on throws it right back at ‘em when you have to pay that baggage fee. Next time you’re in the security line, take your quart-size, clear plastic bag full of 3-oz-or-less gels and liquids out of Flight 001′s Safety Dopp Case ($32), which parodies the genre with lines like “Please stow all babies under your seat.” At least it will provide some levity if you’re forced to throw away that souvenir snow globe.

World Cup Havaianas
These new Havaiana soccer-themed flip flops are so fab, even a non-soccer fan could get into the World Cup spirit. Choose from 24 teams, or heck, choose more than one team, because who can be loyal to just one pair? With these chic but comfy flops, you’ll be glad to stand for hours in a sports bar. They run only in men’s sizes (boo), but there are still plenty of small sizes left that should work for women. Score one for Brazil.

Timex for J.Crew Military Watch
If you’re obsessed with this vintage black military watch in T Magazine but don’t have the cash to drop on a rehabbed Rolex, you can get a similar style for less. J.Crew has teamed up with Timex to reissue this vintage 1940s military watch with a faded black face and black nylon strap. Not only is it tough enough to go with this season’s military garb, it’s as durable as it looks. Water resistant to 50 meters, this unisex watch goes easily from the wilds of Manhattan to the beach.

BookBook Laptop Cases
Remember books? You know, those things you had to lug home from the library and read page by page. You may not have very many leather-bound hardcover books lying around anymore, but now you can have the nerdy caché of carrying around a vintage tome – all whilst protecting a Mac laptop.
