Fashion Week FS08: Halston
A supercool crowd showed up for the relaunch of Halston. Not sure yet about the collection – very drapey. Some of the drapey pieces could become iconic Halston items, but other day wear outfits… It’s alarming when pants make even the models look fat.
Fortunately, the people-watching alone was worth the trip.
Anna Wintour arrives.
Severe military chic – a Karl Lagerfeld level of cool.
Silver jacket.
A model promoting Members Only jackets. The bomber styles are the best sellers, but I like her fitted Balenciaga-esque one.
A good hi-lo mix of Brit wear and Converse sneakers.
Hamish Bowles and Voguette.
Meredith Melling Burke has been wearing a lot of flowy dresses. This one looked particularly good in animal print mixed with the neutral gray coat.
Kate Betts and compadre.
Another example of mixed neutrals – black plus brown bag, plus the red scarf that pops.
Whispering. I totally made that same gesture in junior high and thought no one would know I was whispering in class.
Carine Roitfeld and Mickey Boardman. Love her booties!
A cool downtown look.
Worth noting the stirrup stockings with heels. It’s been spotted a couple times now at the shows…
Running to make the show.
Two well-dressed friends.
The one on the right – Kate Lanphear – may win my vote for fashion icon of the week. Very consistent, catchy, rocker chick style. Skinny black jeans with platform boots.
Padma Lakshmi: gastro chic?

If so many spring collections have been “Deauville,” Michael Kors’ could be called The Swimmer, after the 1968 film starring Burt Lancaster. Preppy fashions abounded, from women’s Lilly Pulitzer-esque pink and green prints to men’s Bermuda shorts in outrageous (by preppy standards) brushed gold khaki. It was a fun collection in the classic American style.
The show was immensely popular and packed to capacity, so much so that late arrivals were turned away. Below, the guests.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Carine Roitfeld
This lady is winning my vote for style icon of NY Fashion Week, Spring Season ’08. Each day she sports her very own distinct look, one that involves tunics and lots of color. Truly chic.

Fashion Week SS08: Temperley London
The Temperley show drew a glamorous crowd of pretty young things.
As for the show itself, gone were the lace and boho prints of yesteryear. The spring line, like Abaeté’s, drew inspiration from Deauville and Biarritz to arrive at a more streamlined style, this one based in the 20′s.

Fashion Week FS07: Oscar de la Renta
The ultimate fashion power crowd descended upon the Oscar de la Renta show yesterday. There was fur, fur everywhere on this particularly frigid New York day, though none of it seemed to be flying, even in the middle of Fashion Week.
Oh yes: and lest you ever feel lazy for wearing the same thing two days in a row, even the editor of French Vogue has been spied sporting the same very fabulous coat twice. Now that’s confidence. And chic.
