Kind of obsessed with this retro look on Sofia Sanchez Barrenechea at the Elie Saab couture show this summer. The glasses! Also, after a few seasons of not seeing jeans because of overall skinny jean fatigue, denim may be back in a big way on the streets this fall, in a variety of cuts and washes. It’s that ’70s thing, as spurred on by the new Gucci collection.
Two great transitional outfits on models Ola Rudnicka and Maja Salamon that kept the fun spirit of summer going but introduced a bit of fall seriousness with polished accessories.
One of my favorite model-off-duty looks outside the couture shows in Paris. Model Cris Herrmann isn’t wearing anything particularly expensive but shows great personal style with a long red silk scarf tied once at the neck, oversize cloth bag and baggy (vintage?) jeans. Très chic.
This week I shot street style photos at the Kingpins Show, a denim trade show, for Team Peter Stigter in New York. It was a cool experience, and you can see all the photos on the Kingpins Facebook page. From the myriad denim swatches hanging inside to the jeans on the guests, there were so many looks that underscored the ubiquity of denim today. Where would we be without Levi Strauss? On Washington Street, construction workers labored in stone washed jeans while a girl whizzed by in shredded jeans and Converse sneakers.
French fashion friends Laure Heriard Dubreuil and Alexandra Golovanoff met up in NYC for the Gucci resort show, both in two cool looks that showcase the new wide cut of pants and jeans right now.
Consider it pre-fall: Rachel Zoe wore black culottes and a black and white fur scarf to the Gucci show in New York. Her husband Rodger Berman looked perfectly preppily turned out in a navy blazer and dark wash jeans.
Outside the Stella McCartney resort show on Monday, Harley Viera-Newton was one of several trendsetters we’ve seen recently to sport a small scarf tied at the neck. This is also a great idea for music festivals, where you can try this trick with a bandana.
A cool mix of high and low fashion – military bomber jacket and jeans with a print top and fabulous mules.
A cute spring look on Leandra Medine aka the Man Repeller at the Mugler show in Paris. She always has the best jeans!
Two big trends we saw at Coachella: hip bags a.k.a. fanny packs – logical because they’re a hands-free way to carry your stuff while you’re at a concert – but also ruffles, which was more surprising to me. Big feminine ruffles were everywhere on tops and dresses, perhaps stemming from the prairie chic on the runways for spring 2015.
Marina Larroude wore some really cool Louis Vuitton flared jeans to the first day of shows in Milan. The ’70s influence in the recent Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent collections turned out to be particularly prescient.
