Prince of Wales plaid popped up everywhere during fashion month on women and men. This lightweight material works well as transition wear during the spring. At Valentino, Marianne mixed it with an orange sweatshirt and retro sunglasses.
Staying chic even in the rain with a fantastically painted leather coat and feather-trimmed jacket at Paris fashion week.
A pretty look in red and white on Tina Leung – and a good lesson in layering spring dresses when the weather isn’t cooperating!
A look in green silk with florals at the Gucci show – beautifully put together, especially the scarf tied at the wrist.
You may be wondering right about now when it will be time to break out the white jeans. The answer is: it’s never too early to wear white jeans, as seen on Eglantina Zingg of Project Runway Latin America – in February! This is one wardrobe item that needs a refresher every year or so. Farewell, coats: One of my favorite coats of Fashion Month, an embroidered one by Etro, on Nausheen Shah at the Carolina Herrera show.
Hey New Yorkers, don’t get too used to this nice weather, because tomorrow, well you know – with Shiona Turini in a hoodie in the rain outside the Public School show.

Sometimes the simplest look is the chicest. Model Maggie Laine mixed a (vintage?) fur with faded black jeans after the Tibi show in NYC.
A luxe shearling coat and silk bandana scarf on Lauren Santo Domingo at Calvin Klein.
If you’re going to have to wear a winter coat well into March, at least make it a big pink one, as Helena Bordon did at Carolina Herrera. This Pepto Bismol pink shade kept popping up on guests at the shows during Fashion Month.
Despite a significant snowstorm on the first day of New York Fashion Week this February, guests still headed out to the shows. Above, an orange coat and statement earrings outside the Desigual show.
Leave it to mix master Veronika Heilbrunner to combine a Fendi coat with a Metallica tee, as seen here at the Chanel couture show.
Flashback to last winter’s deep freeze: if in doubt, pile on the layers, as Taylor Tomasi Hill did outside Milk Studios during last February’s New York Fashion Week.
“Dressing down” does not have to mean wearing athleisure gear from head to toe, especially in New York City. This woman in Astor Place looked comfortable but chic in a open bouclé coat over a cool tee, pink knit hat, torn jeans and ankle boots.
