There’s long been a crossover between the fashion world and Sonic Youth, the post-punk band that put on a surprise performance at a recent Marc Jacobs show. Though “rocker” is considered a category of dress now, this genre-bending band can’t be pigeonholed into a singular style, musical or otherwise. Along with dark rocker looks, they embrace the bright colors and plastic sunglasses of the early ’80s, and their fans followed suit at a concert in Prospect Park this past Saturday.
Proof that you can combine feminine and rocker looks, this outfit of a floral romper, combat boots and plenty of tattoos is classic concert wear for summer 2010.
Bright colors and stripes show true fan-dom.
Pretty in punk: Ruffled mini and Converse sneakers with fluorescent laces.
A cool, creative look of a long green jumpsuit and a rakish straw hat.
New York post-punk looks.
Three fans in wacky sunglasses – and striped socks.
Dresses get paired with boots, flats or sneakers for hours of standing outdoors.
More bright color: salmon-colored pants and a fedora. The clashing Converse sneaks add just the right touch.
Love the vintage picnic basket. Also, a plaid shirt over short shorts is a good way to look casual but cool for an outdoor event.
Another romper, this time in sleek black.
On her, a leopard skirt and black leather jacket – and proof you can look edgy yet grown-up.
So much of this look is very Brooklyn right now – the beard, the tats, the glasses – but it’s also classic 1950s Americana.
A skater look.
Mixing shades of gray.
A couple in all black: gothy but not sweaty. A lot of men have been taking khakis or other cotton pants and just cutting them off above the knee. Voila, shorts.
80s sunglasses -and high waistlines – are back in full force.
Pleated trousers like these khakis are the way to go for fall 2010. A fabulous safari look. Also note that handbags have gotten much smaller (thank God).
More rolled cuffs, tomboy-style.
