Street Chic: Downtown to Midtown, January
Posted by bellastraniera - 29/01/10 at 11:01 am While it may be tempting to bury yourself in a plain black puffer jacket for the fifth day in a row, these fashionable folks prove that you can still look stylish in the cold. Layers are obviously key, but these women and men are paying a lot of attention to coats and accessories, seemingly dressing from the outside layer in. Start with a good coat or interesting bag you may have been neglecting this winter and try building the rest of your look around that.A sculptural, mannishly-tailored coat is a cool Calvin Klein-esque look when paired with skinny black jeans and a gray sweatshirt. The alligator bag ensures that the whole look isn’t too casual.
There’s a lot to love here – the cinched-waist coat matches the puff of her dress, and the suede lace up boots are the same violet as her knit hat.
Blame it on Jay-Z, but somehow I am not sick of big fur hats on men yet.
A plaid blazer and oxblood briefcase are the basis for a professorial look.
Love the granny chic of the vintage fur-collar coat with lace up boots – but the slouchy knit hat puts this look squarely in 2010.
One of the best things about her look? She didn’t dress down because of the cold – very Carine. Sexy black high heel boots paired with leggings and a Chanel bag are warm yet very unbasic black.
A black motorcycle jacket over a long, heavy knit sweater and super skinny black jeans creates a layered look with edge. The sunglasses, the latest RayBans to become a hit again 20 years later, are a new, retooled version of the classic RayBan Clubmaster ($139).
Short and swingy is the best way to wear a fur coat now.
The daring color combination of chartreuse scarf with red gloves and pea green boots makes an otherwise basic navy coat pop.
