Though her latest designs aren’t even on shelves yet, there was an interesting interplay between Catherine Malandrino‘s Fall Winter 2010 collection and what the fashionable guests wore to the presentation last week. Leopard, fur and leather were just as present on the models as they were outside the show.

Chanel bags have not been as ever-present this season as they were last, but they’re a classic fashion favorite.

Bright red tights and turtleneck add a pop of Valentine’s color to a classic navy double breasted coat.
The focus is on sculptural shapes with gray coat and suede boots and an oversize circular knit scarf.
Maggie Rizer also wears an interesting gray coat, this one with a bubble hem.

Team Neiman Marcus: the ever-fashionable Ken Downing and Ann Stordahl brave the cold for the show.
Fur vests aren’t just for women anymore: Black fur lined in black leather looks tough on a guy in gray jeans.
At the presentation, many models wore these clever, chic head wraps, which seem like a natural jumping off point from the knit turbans that have been in style this season. Her dress has an abstract leopard pattern.

Where the Wild Things Are has had a huge impact on fashion that will continue for the next year. Following on the heels of the Where the Wild Things Are X Opening Ceremony line, many designers picked up on the fur and the primitive, tribal vibe. (It also ties into the more disturbing trend of furries, but that’s another story….) And does the hair remind you of anything? That’s right: Pebbles of the Flintstones. All that’s missing is a bone.
Catherine Malandrino has a knack for color, plucking out just the right shade from the overall cultural mood, like the azure blue of this silk and cable paneled sweater and leggings.

Sorry, but I don’t think a pickup with a gunrack pulling a Harley could make the guy in gray jeans look tough.
Tough for fashion week, maybe?? OK, so some of the women in studded accessories could beat him up, but still.
