Field Notes From Bermuda

There will be no emails this week – in Bermuda, “with limited access to email.” (Right… does anyone believe that vacation auto response anymore?)
Some field notes: Visited the new Tucker’s Point Hotel and Spa, and it’s pretty fabu. Gorgeous marble interiors, indoor/outdoor corridors, amazing views, two pools, clubby bar furnished with antique prints, new restaurant, spa, croquet field, dive center, golf galore, beautiful beach. It’s worth going now before it gets discovered by the magazines, if you can spare $700/night.
The food in Bermuda has gotten more interesting and ethnic. Escargots are made with the usual garlic and butter at Rustico - but they also add curry. It’s a real melting pot here (Uighurs included) with many global influences in what was once traditional British cuisine.
Political uproar now because an attempt to oust Bermuda’s Premier, Ewart Brown, fizzled over the weekend. “Cabinet has failed in its duty to rein in Dr. Brown,” reads the headline of The Royal Gazette.
