Street Chic: Greenwich Village
Posted by bellastraniera - 07/10/09 at 06:10 pm It’s back-to-school time in the NYU neighborhood, where you can always get a lesson on style without a huge clothing allowance. Some of the easiest, cheapest nods to current fashion: a flash of red, oversized sweatshirts and sweatpants, Pendleton plaid, gray, and lace tights like these.A nice masculine-feminine mix of a slouchy sweatshirt paired with lace tights. Add the hair and you’ve got a modern (unconscious?) interpretation of Flashdance.
Plaid isn’t going anywhere just yet. Also note his shoes: the fall version of boaters.
Cute version of “boyfriend jeans” on a guy with a Tin Tin look.
Black and white scarf and a good use of booties with a high hem.
Biker chic: A flash of red from his Pendelton shirt fluttered out from under the gray blazer.
Painterly grays. The slouchy knit hat is still a favorite means of keeping warm and looking cool.
High tops are ruling the street. These in bright red are especially eye-catching.
A very stylish yet timeless look. Note that her belted wool coat is actually short-sleeved. She wears it with a slouchy knit hat.
Oddly, sweatpants are shaping up to be a key avant-garde fashion item this season – blame Alexander Wang. Which reminds me of one of D.’s favorite skits, Break-Up Sweatpants from Michael and Michael Have Issues.
Here’s another look of a trenchcoat with oxfords. Love them!
More colorful hightops, worn with the guy version of the knit hat and a preppy down vest.
How a guy can do ripped jeans: subtlety is key. Also like the scarf-blazer-tee combination.
Braids were a big spring 2010 runway beauty trend and are already on the street now. One of the best looks, as seen at the Walter show, is one braid down the side of your head, givingĀ hair an asymmetrical look.
Hot pink plaid in an ’80s-style ruffled minidress, paired with over-the-knee black suede boots. And of course, a black leather jacket, the ever-practical “fleece” of NYC.
So far I’ve only seen jeggings on guys – and who can blame them when they have such enviable legs?! He toughens it up with a red Pendleton plaid jacket and motorcycle boots. The best thing about this outfit, though, was the fearless mix of patterns.
