At Monday’s David Byrne show in Prospect Park, we saw a ton outdoor concert outfits – some of them more successful than others. Ditch the ancient Grateful Dead tee and get in gear with one of these four looks that combine layers, comfort, and high style. You may not be en route to Bonnaroo right now, but chances you’ll have a reason to bust out some concert wear sometime this summer.
Look #1: Denim Shorts
Denim shorts are undeniably a huge trend for summer 2009, but don’t feel compelled to spend a fortune on this small scrap of material. Go for Topshop’s instead – we own them, and they work. This outfit will carry you through the day rain or shine.
Clockwise from top left: Topshop Straw Trilby Hat ($40), Bodkin Polyethene Parka made from 100% recycled materials ($268 on sale), James Perse Supima Long Tank ($45), Frye Margot Studded Sandal ($135 on sale), Topshop Vintage Look Turnup Shorts ($55), Joie Paulette Embroidered Tunic ($138.60 on sale).
Look #2: Graphic Tee
Concerts are a great excuse to break out a cool graphic tee. Pair it with some custom-made Nike high tops and a cotton tote and you’ll be ready to rock.
Clockwise from top left: Ubiquity Music is for Lovers Tee ($23), Tom Waits Cotton Tote ($11.50), Nike Air Mid iD Mogan Shoe ($100), Citizens of Humanity Elson Tempest Jeans ($188).
Look #3: Maxi Dress
As mentioned, a maxi dress is a great option for outdoor events – the length can keep you warm, but the bare shoulders will cool you off. Plus, when done correctly, they just look effortlessly chic.
Clockwise from top left: T-Bags Red Splash Dress ($237), J. Crew Ombre Beach Hat ($28), Old Navy Medium Wash Denim Jacket ($20 on sale), We Who See Laser Cutout Shoes ($29 on sale).
Look #4: Jumpsuit
Paired with a sweater, a jumpsuit can take you straight from the office to the show. This one by Grey Ant for Urban Outfitters is sexy enough for nighttime.
Clockwise from top left: Grey Antics Jersey Knit Long Jumper ($78), Topshop Small Round Sunglasses ($30), Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Zebra Cardi ($396), Vouch Multi-eyelet pump ($44).
