Martha's Vineyard Fashion - FridayEven if you arrived on the island of Martha’s Vineyard stark naked, you could acquire all the necessary clothes in no time—the shopping here is that perfectly tailored to the experience. Many of our favorite stores there are not online yet, but the clothing and shoe brands are. Here are four looks to get you through the weekend.

Look #1: The Loren

Our friend Loren has a very practiced eye for preppy style, and we always wondered what her inspiration was until we came here. Eureka! A Lacoste shirt, miniskirt or shorts and reversible Hadley Pollet belt are the day wear of choice on Martha’s Vineyard.

Look #2: The Jenny

How do you look sexy but pulled-together for the beach? Go with a convertible skirt worn as a dress, pair it with a big sunhat, and you can go from beach to town without missing a beat.

Look #3: Friday Night Dinner

This is based on an outfit we noticed at Chesca’s on Friday night. White jeans are the basis of a classic, cool look, and this Alice + Olivia gray wrap sweater is perfection: so versatile, it can also be worn over a loose caftan.

Look #4: Saturday Night Dancing

MV may be pretty laid back during the day, but at night they like to spiff it up. This means Nan reds and blazers for the men, dresses for the women. This isn’t really a stilettos kind of place, so go with wedges for extra height plus comfort. Plus, you wouldn’t want to ruin the deck of his boat….

Other Essentials

Don’t forget to bring:
• a fleece
• a raincoat/foul weather gear (authentic sailing gear encouraged)
• cashmere cardigan(s)
• jacket to layer over other layers for evening

Anticipate: cold, wind, rain, fog, bright sunshine. It’s New England so anything goes – weather-wise, at least.
