Contrary to popular belief, fashionistas are easy to shop for – we all want the same things – yay! But these things, usually designed by Miuccia, Alexander, and Karl, can be quite expensive – boo.
Fortunately, most of us have already adjusted to the discrepancy between wants and means. Fashion is really about celebrating a fabulous lifestyle at any price point. Giving sparkly, luxurious, girly things can be as simple as finding a fancy small leather good or a pair of super soft socks. And if in doubt, there’s always a gift certificate to Topshop.
Rachel Zoe Faux Fur Toggle Coat ($118) When you think QVC, you may think “Quacker Factory,” but no: Rachel Zoe’s stylish collection is also sold here.
Chanel “Wallet on a Chain” bag in black and silver. The ultimate Chanel bag. Le sigh.
Burberry Double Breasted Trench Coat ($1,195). Dozens of chic women at Fashion Week can’t be wrong – well, they could be, but at least they’re in agreement. This is the must-have coat for fall and spring.
Mary Green Embroidered Sleeping Eye Mask ($20) via Refinery 29. Chances are, a trans-Atlantic flight is somewhere in her future. After all, you have to go to Milan to get to the Prada outlet.
iKaraoke ($60). For some reason there is a huge overlap between fashion people and hard-core American Idol fans. (All that musical theater in high school?) Let them practice at home with this device.
Hinged Owl Necklace ($22). Give a hoot: this vintage-looking necklace will win compliments – and it’s only 22 bucks.
V Stripe Light Nylon Tights ($14) Patterned tights and stockings will get her through the winter in style.
Plush Fleece-lined Leggings ($35) via Fab Sugar. One of the worst things about winter in the Northeast? Giving up key fall fashion items like cotton leggings because they’re just not warm enough. Behold! These leggings will keep her warm while not making her look fat (equally important).
Arielle de Pinto Web Necklace ($297). One way to impress a fashion person is to find a label that’s so cutting edge, she hasn’t even heard of it yet. Jewelry designer Arielle de Pinto makes the grade.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Flap Clutch Leather Wallet ($180) (or anything from the Marc Jacobs store on Bleecker Street). If you’re going to have to look at an accessory every single time you take out your credit card, it’d better be Marc Jacobs.
Smythson Leather Passport Cover ($100). Smythson has been making fabulous little leather goods for eons.
Hue Lurex Control Top Tights ($12.50). These sparkly tights are perfect for that upcoming New Year’s fete.
Sonia Rykiel Pour H&M. It’s true: fancy underthings can be quite expensive. But that’s why God invented diffusion lines. Sonia Rykiel Pour H&M is chic and cheap.
Fox Earmuffs ($98). This envy-inducing accessory will also keep her warm. Double duty!
Adia Kabur Chiffon Rosette Necklace ($120). Holly Golightly did not go to the Tiffany’s windows to look at yet another “bean” necklace. If you’re spending less than a couple thou, skip the traditional and go the indie route, as with this super cool rosette necklace.
Steven Alan Boyfriend Cotton Wool Shirt ($158). Perfect for a night out in Williamsburg. Note: though there are many copycats, Steven Alan is the designer who made the plaid shirt cool. Do not substitute with Eddie Bauer.
Editions de Parfums Dans Tes Bras Eau de Parfum ($230). Because everything’s sexier when you say it in French.
Valeur Shinto Cap with Green Lining ($125). On bad hair days or any day, a cool hat confers instant style.
Gap Slipper Bootie ($29.50). Sold out online but still available in stores, these Gap slippers are the ultimate in cozy ski chalet comfort. Note: do not buy them in turquoise!! Horrors.
Giles and Brother Mixed Chain Bracelet with Rhinestones ($160). Eff cutesy jewelry – fashionistas want something badass, like this biker chic bracelet. It’s a tough world out there.
Aqua Solid Fingerless Gloves ($45). On the off chance that your fashionista maintains her size zero figure by smoking instead of eating, these fingerless gloves will come in handy at lunchtime.
Another Fashion Book by Jefferson Hack ($85). It is so not true that fashion people don’t read. We do read – but the books have a lot of pictures in them. Oh – and we usually buy them at Barneys.
