You didn’t have to be an oil heiress to appreciate the importance of the party dress to ’80s fashion. Any excuse to wear a colorful, frou frou confection of a dress was welcomed – even if it was a club you were going to, not the prom. Case in point, style icon Cyndi Lauper in her rocked out party dress with a chain belt in the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video (1984). Lauper was also hugely influential when it came to ’80s beauty and accessories – asymmetrical haircuts, wild eye makeup, and big earrings all came from her. It’s no wonder that she’s still seen at fashion shows today.
