The Facts of Life (1979-1988) is often cited as a major ’80s fashion influence (the basis for Gossip Girl character Lily van der Woodsen’s ’80s-era self), though I’m not quite sure why. Unfortunately, many good fashion opportunities are ruined by their horrid maroon schoolgirl uniforms. Mainly it’s Blair’s perfect looks – especially the big blond hair – and her conservative fashion philosophy that resonate. She was basically the female counterpart to Alex P. Keaton.
