The fashion set broke out yet another round of fabulous outfits for day seven of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, where Phillip Lim showed in the tents. Set against a 007-esque mirrored backdrop, the collection featured sportswear in relaxed layers, gray with pops of red, and a trompe l’oeil pleated dress that was white walking in one direction, black walking back. The sequined party clothes were especially appealing.
A successful take on the ’80s look – very “Addicted to Love” meets Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. Expect to see more PVC/leather skirts like this through the winter – and yes, tube skirts are back.
Alexa Chung went super short with a flirty black and white polka dot mini dress accessorized with badass black patent leather boots and a motorcycle jacket.
Zachary Palmer of The L Magazine in a dashing blue suit with brown vest. Note the update on the three-piece suit of yore: it doesn’t have to be all the same suit. Feel free to mix up the vest.
Love the Grey Gardens look of an embellished top worn with a vintage-y pearl necklace and fur shawl.
Another way to wear oxfords is with a very short skirt – as long as your legs can take the attention. Nice interesting clash of the gingham cuff against the floral skirt. Look for florals in muted colors this fall.
Nina Garcia, all business in a blue buttondown.
Fashion fan Rosemary Ponzo in a Dolce & Gabbana hat – one of her best yet.
Anh Duong in a gray jumpsuit and Louboutin Mary Janes.
Meredith Melling Burke in a trench, black pants and black ankle boots. Digging her two-tone satchel, which is elegant without screaming “It Bag.”
Ken Downing in another sleek gray suit and skinny tie, on his Blackberry before the show.
Anna Dello Russo in an amazing art deco-ish dress. You may recognize the shoes and bag from the Oscar de la Renta show.
Cute and daring: an oversize boyfriend shirt worn as a minidress, paired with oversize blazer.
A cool white flocked tweed jacket worn with blingy earrings, pink lips.
One of fashion’s front row redheads, seen this day in black and white and more strappy black sandals.
Eric Wilson of the Times, left. He’s so low key he could slip entirely under the radar, yet he’s one of the most influential fashion critics writing today. I know I should know the other two… Super cool motorcycle jacket for a guy, and she’s in a pretty embellished cardigan paired with a Chanel bag.
Olivia Chantecaille in a silk print dress, statement necklace and nude heels.
Red carpet cowboy.
More strappy black sandals.
Fern Mallis in a block print dress and more strappy black sandals.
A beautiful gray velvet blazer dressed down with DC hightop sneakers, worn loosened over the cuffs of the jeans.
Ann Stordahl of Neiman Marcus and Linda Fargo or Bergdorf Goodman, who was wearing an amazing cheetah print dress that day.
Joe Zee and Robbie Myers of Elle.
Fashion obsessed: blogger Bryan Boy in a statement necklace and Hermes bag.
Models going backstage past the James Bond-esque set.
