Calorie Counting with the Lose It! App

picture-9I just downloaded this app and am already obsessed: Lose It! keeps track of how many calories you consume each day and deducts the calories you burn. It may sound simple, but if you’ve ever been lost in a fog of misinformation, this free application will clear it up immediately.  For instance, if you’ve ever wondered: how bad is that extra tablespoon of olive oil (+126 calories)/gin and tonic (+160 calories)/half of a bagel with cream cheese (+245 calories), and can I burn it off by walking to work? Lose It! will also tell you that sadly, a 30-minute walk only burns 71 calories, so chances are the answer is no.

Plug in your your goal weight, and based on your current weight, height, and age, Lose It! gives you an allotment of how many calories you can consume each day. The huge, searchable database of food includes New York staples like falafel, salads, pizza, pork shumai, Kashi cereal, Diet Coke, and even seasonal summer fare like pints of German beer. If you eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day (supposedly the secret of many skinny bitches in the fashion industry, according to the August issue of Allure), you can save the entire meal to your profile and reference it again. Deduct calories for running based on speed x time, or create a custom exercise like a hard-core yoga class.

The only thing this tool doesn’t seem to take into account is BMI: Lose It! does not reconcile fat vs. muscle weight. But in that case, you can always recalibrate your goal weight when you reach your ideal size.

Right now, the only people who seem to be aware of this application are straight, techie men. What a waste! Women, gay men, and foodies should channel their iPhone addiction into this program.

Because it’s not like you can lose weight by sexting.

Lose It! is free on iTunes

I have been using this app for 7 weeks and i have lost 15 pounds! I love it. It is a little bit of a pain to have to navigate through the menus to add the separate ingredients for a burrito from Chipotle. But it is nice that once i have done it once, i just search in my Previous Meals, find Chipotle and add that meal in again. It also allows me to have a burrito from Chipotle if i cut it in half and have the other half for dinner. Great app Lose It! devs.

  3. I’ve been doing it for 2 weeks now and have lost 3-4 pounds – hopefully not all water weight. I just love how logical it is. No one is saying you CAN’T eat those potato chips, just that you will have to go to the gym – again – if you do. It’s especially good for a food critic – I can’t give up an entire category of food or drinks and so far I haven’t had to. That’s where the South Beach diet did not work for me at all. Brilliant!

Some women have found this app. I’ve been using it since March and am down 75 lbs!

I’ve been using this app since the start of the year and have gone from 200 lbs to 173 lbs and counting. It works for me because it gives a clear, simple way to count calories. It doesn’t deny you any foods, you’re just accountable for what you eat. It’s one of my favorites apps! After years of exercise and not exercising and eating and not eating, I finally have an easy point of reference for what I weigh and what I can eat.

This post should be deleted because it conatins hate speech. Bellastraniera owes an apology to straight techie men, or he/she/it should be banished from the site forever.

Yep, more and more women are discovering Loseit. NOTHING gets past my lips without getting logged in on Loseit! So far it is working. I just wish the food database included a few more restaurants….
